Fish'n & Hunt'n Reports

May 2008

Lets go fish’n for SHARKS! Anyone that’s fished the Shark Tournaments, in past years, put on by Freddy Avant is anticipating this years 2008 SHARK TOURNAMENT! It’s sponsored by Freddy’s Taxidermy and will be fished out of B & B Seafood Landing @ Bennett’s Point on June 17th & the “Captain’s Meeting” will be Friday evening @ 6:30pm, the 16th. Call Freddy @ 843.866.7964 or on his cell @ 843.908.1521 for more information. Even if you've never fished sharks before, this tournament is all about a good time!

EDISTO OUTBOARD & MARINE is located, on Hwy 17A near Cottageville, [12053 Cottageville Hwy]. They are running a huge sale on some used boats. Boats that are perfect for the Low Country & are very well equipped. Chris tells us they’re offering expert service at fair prices & the fastest turnaround time in the Low Country! Malcolm Murdock, a certified technician, with over 30 years experience, is overseeing repairs. They will also come to you, to do repairs on boats, engines and trailers. Stop in, check out their showroom & get to know the folks at Edisto Outboard & Marine. “Be safe in the woods & on the water!”

BLACK WATER BAIT & TACKLE @ Jellico’s Landing, run by Hubert McCrannie, has plenty of cold beverages & snack items along with bait & tackle & is convenient to accessing the Edisto River with the landing right next to the bridge on Hwy. 17A. Black Water Bait & Tackle is now handling minnows and canoe & kayak rentals, so stop by for your bait needs, or just stop by & visit while you enjoy a cold beer or soft drink. Early mornings & evenings, Largemouth bass fish’n is very productive. Try a floating worm or most top water baits for best results. Fish’n the Edisto is great fun, this time of year, as the bream bite is on, particularly during a full moon. Those big Flathead Cats are always a good catch on the Edisto. Fish the bottom in the deeper holes with cut bait.

If you’re looking for some good old “Down home service”, talk to the folks at WALTERBORO FEED & GARDEN SUPPLY! Jamie & crew will answer your feed & seed questions & aid in selecting the right products to get the job done right. It’s time to be thinking about that Spring garden & they’ve got a large variety of plants from the Bonnie Plant Farm, now in stock. “Good hunt’n & fish’n”, from the good folks at Walterboro Feed & Garden Supply.

You can fine all the gear you’ll require at LOW COUNTRY MARINE in Walterboro. Come by & check out the great buys & specials they run everyday on nicely rigged boats prefect for Low Country fish’n! Ready to re-power? Talk to the folks at Low Country Marine. Spring in the Lowcountry means that it is time to fish in the three rivers in Colleton County and in local ponds. The bream and redbreast will be caught close to the banks using beetlespins, crickets and worms. Fish the full moon for best results. The bass can be caught on Texas rigged worms, spinnerbaits and top water baits fished close to structure on the bank. In the coastal creeks red fish can be caught using live mud minnows or artificial grubs, or spoons. Grass lines are a good place to hook into a big red. The flounder have moved into creeks and can be caught on mud minnows and grubs. Sheepshead and black drum fishing continues to do well using fiddlers, clams or frozen crabs. “Keep it safe on the water!”

PLANTATION MARINE in Walterboro is located on Hwy. 64 East. They’ve got several boat models to choose from that are perfect for Low Country fish’n & hunt’n or just for water recreation. They’ve got boats by Triton (Aluminum), Glasstron, Sea Boss, Outer Banks & Triumph. They just added a new line of boats by “NauticStar”! Stop by & check it out. You can choose power by Honda, Suzuki & Tohatsu. It’s that time of year for some great Spottail Bass fish’n. Look for the Spottail Bass to be schooling in the flats & on the edge of grass lines. A sharp eye will spot them “Finning” in the flats. Try a spoon tipped with a mud minnow & work it slowly. The Spots & Whiting fish’n has been great & Flounder are being taken on live shrimp, mud minnows & fingerling mullet. For Trout, we recommend live shrimp or grubs. For you hunters... Plantation Marine is now handling a large selection of Camo clothing & accessories.
