SPORTSMANS ONE STOP reports that the crappie fishing
on Lake Russell is just about to go into overdrive. The fish have
moved back into the backs of coves and up creeks in preparation
for the spawn. Some fish are still being caught under the bridges
but most big fish are being caught casting toward the bank with
a minnow tipped jig about 3 to 4 feet under a cork and worked
slowly back to the boat. The bass are still doing very good on
mid running crankbaits (10 foot range). We got in a new load of
Strike King Pro Model Jigs. Also got in a shipment of Sebile Magic
Swimmers and Lucky Craft Reel Skin Pointers. The boys down here
are still killing the catfish on Lake Secession using red worms
or roller worms caught out of the creeks if you can find them.
A few nice stripers were taken on Lake Russell recently. If you
decide to target them, we have a good supply of lively blue back
herring.

At LONG CREEK ARCHERY they can order for you from Bass
Pro Shop. Any orders over $100 will get free shipping. Also the
Mathews and Bow Tech bows are selling quickly. Get in now and
put one on lay away. Turkey hunting has been good during April.
Fishing for crappie in the shallows is great on Russell, Secession
and Clarks Hill using minnows. Hybrids and stripers are being
caught on these lakes using live or cut bait on main points and
sandy areas just off the main river channel. The stripers will
move back down these lakes by the end of May. Stop in and shoot
the 2008 Mathews and Bow Tech bows.
Sam tells us the fishing is finally starting to get better with
the warmer weather. The turkey hunters did pretty good in April
and he invites you to stop by CHEROKEE TRAIL OUTDOORS and
restaurant right here at 700 West Green Street Thats Hwy
72 in Abbeville. On Clarks Hill try minnows and small jigs around
the bank around brush for some good crappie. Stripers should be
coming back down from the river toward mid lake this month. They
can be caught on live or cut herring off main lake points. Largemouth
will get active and the lizards, floating worms, topwater baits
and spinnerbaits should all work off rocky points secondary points
and blow troughs. Catfishing is always great on worms, stinkbaits
and cut bait on the bottom.
Our customers have really been bringing in some good stripers
caught below Russell Dam in the moving water and in the upper
part of Lake Russell reports PLEZ-U FOOD STORE located
on Hwy 81 at 72 in Calhoun Falls. Plenty of bass, crappie and
a few bream are coming in out of both lakes.
The warm weather has really turned on fish in our area! Plenty
of crappie and bass are being caught right here from the bank
and docks on the warmer days reports THE STORE, located
on Flat Rock Road just south of Hwy 184 east of Iva on Lake Succession.
Russell carries a good selection of live bait, fishing tackle,
ice, beer, groceries, gas and oil for your convenience.
