Fishing has been good on catfish on Lake Moultrie and the Cooper River. A few shellcracker are being caught in the Diversion Canal on worms. Bass will be in the shallows during the full moon for the next couple of months.

Kevin and Alan of BLACK’S CAMP (843-753-2231) said the fishing has been real good with the rising water. They have been seeing some very good trips for the catfish. The crappies can be caught over brush piles on jigs and minnows. The bream are still biting on the fish attractors and deeper brush piles on worms and crickets. Bass fishing has been great in the shallow water around some type of cover. Kevin invites you to come out to their fine restaurant for some good eating, enjoy the great fishing, and their great hospitality. You can call Kevin Davis or visit their website at www.blackscamp.com for fishing guide services available. Kevin says to improve the fish habit put out some brush piles and use myrtle bushes as they last the longest. Also, They would like to remind everyone to practice catch and release, so we will have plenty of bass, crappie, bream, stripers, and catfish to catch in the future.

Captain John Sellers of BIG JOHN GUIDE SERVICE (1-888-868-7553) tells us this is the time the big blue catfish move up into shallow water and are being caught on cut bait. Later on in the spring they will move out in the creek channels and are caught drifting cut bait. Big John specializes in giant catfish on the lakes. Now is the best time to book your trips for the spring and summer fishing season. Big John has over 40+ years of experience fishing the lakes. He has a 30 ft. pontoon boat that can handle up to 6 people and even has a rest room on board. If you would like to get in on some of this good fishing, give Big John Guide Service a call.

Capt. Joe Carnley (www.cheaphookercatfishguide.com or 843-753-3050) “THE CHEAP HOOKER CATFISH GUIDE” says: The big fish have been in the shallows and when we could stay in the shallows with them we had some fine trips. The problem is that the wind has blown so hard and so often this past month that it's been difficult to impossible to anchor in the shallow water. When that happens we have been forced to drift the deeper water. That can be and has been a successful tactic (as you can see in the photo's in this issue) but not the preferred method for the spawn season. Both of the pictures were taken on days when we were forced to fish deep water all day. What is it with the groups coming out of Hinesville, Ga? This is the second party from there to win a free trip in less than a year. It can't be something in their water, I thought Georgia was nearly out of water! Fortunately, the fish are starting to become more active in the deeper waters and the wind isn't as big of a factor. We're starting to catch more good fish even on the windy days. We're now into the time of year when I like to go to the Dead Forrest of the upper lake (Lake Marion) and pursue those big monster Flatheads. Last year we lost several monsters so this year I've up graded my equipment to a stiffer rod and some heavier duty reels. I really think we have a chance to break the South Carolina, State, Flathead Catfish record of 79 lbs. 4 Oz's. I know it's out there we just have to hook 'em and get it in the boat. My weekend dates are booking way ahead so if you're looking for a weekend this summer you should call as soon as you can. By the way, it's time for those big cats to start swimming in the Diversion Canal so if you want to bring your boat and try to catch a trophy on your own, NOW IS THE TIME! Hope to see you on the lake. My boat has a hardtop with a clear curtain enclosure to protect you from the elements. I also have a port-a-potty enclosed in it's own private area which comes as quite a relief for the ladies. Ask about the MILITARY or FAMILY DISCOUNTS! Check it out at www.CheapHookerCatfishGuide.com.
