Fish'n & Hunt'n Reports

May 08

Ken tells us that the fish are doing real good on Jocassee and he invites you to stop by JOCASSEE OUTDOOR CENTER located at 516 Jocassee Lake Road in Salem and get the latest, up to the minute area fishing report. Some really big trout, almost record size smallmouth and some big bass were caught last month. Trout will be moving deeper this month because of the warming water and you will need a downrigger and the right tackle to attract them to your hook. Try trolling with Bad Creek lures and Lucky Jaks from 60 to 80 feet deep over tree tops. Largemouth are being caught slowly retrieving small green plastic worms Carolina rigged, jigging spoons and small crankbaits from the rocky banks. Smallmouth Bass can be caught casting brown hair jigs on rocky points and rocky banks.

Our customers have been catching some really nice crappie on Lake Keowee using doll-flies and mini-jigs or live minnows around brush reports PAT’S CASH AND CARRY located one mile below Salem on Hwy 130. Some decent catches of large mouth and spotted bass have also been caught in recent tournaments on Keowee. Several of our customers did their homework and had some luck in bagging a spring turkey, and as far as we can tell, it was an excellent season for everyone. Do not forget our good hot dogs, bird dogs, taco salads and ice cream.

We do have displayed some great pictures of our turkey hunting customers who did real well in the spring season. Fishing is good to great here in the tri lake area. While in the area, be sure and stop by the store here at DURHAM’S CONVENIENCE MART and get yourself some good hot food while you wait, and of course, breakfast is served everyday.
