They aim to capture the most life-like mount without sacrificing craftsmanship. Stop by their shop and check out their mounts or see them on his website www.foothillstaxidermy.net . Be sure and bring that big tom turkey in for a very realistic, professional mount.

They have had some mighty big spring turkeys brought in by some good and first time hunters reports Karen at FINLEY’S TAXIDERMY located on Belhaven Road Extension in Belton. May is the time to pull that big trophy bass, bream, catfish or striper out of the lake, and be sure and bring it by here to be mounted by the best in the state. Check out the pictures of their great mounts in this section of the magazine.

Fishing has been good in this area of Lake Hartwell for hybrid and striper. More fish will be caught around mid-May near T-14 and in this area of the lake, reports Wanda at WALDROP’S BAIT SHOP, MOTEL AND RESTAURANT, located on Weldon Island, off Hwy 24. Some good bass, crappie, and bream should be caught in this area now that the water has warmed. This will keep the kids entertained. They have a number of bass and striper tournaments out of here this month. They request that you let them know when you are having one so that they can have the personnel available to feed you a good hot breakfast.

JERRY’S BAIT SHOP reports that the middle of April and the middle of May should be the best time for bass to be bedding. Stop by the shop and pick up some Zoom Finesse worms and lizards and be ready for them. Jerry is located at 647 North Main Street here in Belton. Stripers and hybrids will be moving back down the rivers in Hartwell toward the main lake. For some great striper action this month try using live bait off points. Crappie will be from the bank to 10 feet of water around brush and can be caught on minnows or mini-jigs. As the water warms most of the crappie fishing will be done under bridges at night using lanterns. The first of May should be a great time to catch bream on crickets in the shallows in the local ponds, rivers and lakes in the area especially around the full moon on May 20.

The weather is great and the fish are biting on the area lakes reports Jerry at WHITE JONES HARDWARE AND SPORTING GOODS, located in Pruitt Shopping Center, Watson Village and on Hwy. 24 west near the double bridges. They stock bait tanks by Berry Insulated and Rex Air for the live bait fishermen. They do have a 6 or 12 month same as cash lay-away plan, for such items as guns, tree stands and more. Come check out the quality gun safes. Bass are in eight to twelve feet of water and move up to even shallower water by the afternoon hours and can be caught on spinner baits, crankbaits and jerk baits. Carolina Rigs are still catching a lot of Bass on the rocks and wood in the coves and secondary points. The striper and hybrids should be caught in the middle part of the lake using live bait. May is a great time to get some cricket and worms and catch some bream shallow at the lake or in local ponds. Be sure to take a kid fishing.

THE BAIT SHOP is located on Hwy. 24 at 105 Jenkins Circle about one mile south of I-85. Tim carries live bait including gizzard shad and blue back herring. He caters to all fishermen and has completely enlarged his building with more holding tanks and a huge assortment of fishing tackle. Drive up or drive in for live bait. On Lake Hartwell, May is a great time to catch stripers, hybrids and crappie. The stripers are coming down the rivers from their false spawning run and are real hungry. They can be caught free lining herring near the balls of bait mainly off points.
