RICK’S OF SOUTH CAROLINA is located on Bluff Road
on the way to the Santee Cooper Lakes. They are hearing that the
crappie, bream and catfish are being caught on Lake Marion and
Lake Wateree in the backs of the creeks. The bream should be bedding
in the shallows on the full moon (May 19) and can be caught using
crickets and worms under corks. Remember Rick’s of South
Carolina is open 7 days a week 24 hours a day and has all types
of live bait. There is an ABC store next to Rick’s of South
Carolina.

The news at BARRON’S OUTFITTERS, “Columbia’s
Hunting and Fishing Headquarters” is located in the heart
of downtown Columbia at 1725 Harden Street. Barron’s is Columbia’s
fly fishing headquarters. Barron’s can outfit you and teach
you how to fly fish whether you are going to the coast for big
reds, trout fishing in the mountains or fly fishing in ponds and
rivers. They have years of experience doing all types of rod and
reel repair. Lake Murray Stripers are being caught on blue back
herring fished near the bottom in the mouths of the creeks. Largemouth
bass are being caught in shallows and into the backs of the coves
around rocks and structure. You should fish slowly with crankbaits,
spinnerbaits, Carolina rigged worms, Texas-rigged worms or floating
worms. Also crappie can be caught slow trolling mini-jigs or drifting
minnows in the mouths of the creeks in the middle part of the
lake. Be sure and fish shallow for crappie, bream and bass the
week before full moon (May 19). Drop by and get a report on the
fish’n around Columbia.
EAST COLUMBIA SPORT SHOP is located at 7925 Garners Ferry

live bait, live herring and fishing tackle. The striper fishing
on the Congaree River is best when the water is flowing and catfishing
should be at its peak in late April and May. In the area ponds
and rivers the bream and catfishing should be at its peak. The
Tackle Shop not only has a great selection of fishing supplies,
they also have ice, drinks, beer, and snacks, all you will need
for a day of fishing. Stop by and ask Mike for an up to date fishing

Columbia Road, Orangeburg, stated that its time to bass fish in
the coves and shallows on Lake Marion. Some nice catfish are
also being caught fishing worms and cut bait in deeper holes.
The stripers are showing up in the Congaree River and Wateree
Rivers. Smith’s 66 and Marine has the Alumacraft jon boats
in stock, which is perfect for fishing or hunting. They offer
full sales and service on Mercury outboards. You need to come
by and check out the one and two man Crow Boats that are designed
for fishing in ponds and small rivers.

From BUCK’S SPORT SHOP-N-MARKET they stated that bream
and bass have moved into the shallows for their spring spawn.
They continue too hear of some good catches of catfish on cut
bait and worms fished on the bottom. Some of their customers
are starting to catch some stripers in the Congaree River. They
are stocked up with all types of bass, crappie, bream and striper
fishing lures and have all types of live bait. Buck’s Sport
Shop-N-Market is now for sale, Lot, Building and Stock. All or

SPORTSMAN’S WAREHOUSE in Columbia at 476 Piney Grove
Road, Exit 104 off I-26 is a huge 65,000 square foot store stocked
with all types of hunting supplies, fishing supplies, camping
supplies, reloading supplies, outerwear and footwear. There is
over 65 Sportsman’s Warehouse in the United States. Sportsman’s
Warehouse has everything the camper, hunter or fisherman needs

PETE’S SANDY RUN STORE & GRILL is located on Hwy
176 at Hwy 31 in the Sandy Run - Gaston area. Opening early (5:00
am) to serve the entire areas sportsman. They have an excellent
selection of fishing tackle. On the fishing, the warmer weather
means good bass and bream fishing in the local ponds. Some big
catfish are being caught in holes on the river using liver and
gizzards. There are reports stripers can be caught using live
herring or shad on the Congaree River. So come by and get some
minnows, crickets or worms and go catch you a stringer full. They
have hot meals (Pete’s has quite the selection), to include
great fried chicken. And if you want something cold or hot to
drink, stop by Pete’s!
JOHNSON MARINE in Orangeburg carries the Suzuki, Evinrude
and Johnson outboards. They have an excellent selection of Sea
Ark, Polar Craft and Bay Stealth Boats. These boats are affordable
and perfect for fish'n, leisure or skiing in the waters of South
Carolina. Johnson Marine has an excellent service department and
Heath also specializes in personal watercraft repair. Many of
their customers are out fishing on the Santee Cooper lakes for
catfish using worms. The bass should be found shallow and can
be caught around structure like cypress trees and brush piles.
Stripers can be caught in the rivers on the upper part of Lake
Marion using live and cut bait just off the bottom in moving water
around rocks. Around the full moon (May 19), look for Bream and
redbreast in the shallows, using worms, crickets and beetle spins.

and hunting departments in the area. The catfish have moved into
the shallows on Lake Marion and can be caught on cut bait and
worms. Also bass can be caught shallow in the creeks and coves
off Lake Marion around docks, trees and brush on worms, lizards
and spinnerbaits. The stripers have moved into the Congaree and
Wateree Rivers and can be caught on live and cut bait in the deeper
holes. The bream fishing should be excellent (full moon May 19)
in the area ponds in the shallows using crickets and worms. Andy
carries crickets, worms, minnows, ballyhoo, squid, cigar minnows
and more. Black River has everything you will need for a great
day of fishing.

The good folks at THE OUTPOST on Hwy 176 in Sandy Run are
now receiving deliveries of live herring and shad. The Outpost
has a great assortment of tackle, with new shipments arriving
weekly. Word is the stripers are in the deep holes and near the
bottom around the moving water and rocks, using live or cut herring.
They also stated that the locals have been catching some big catfish
on the Congaree River using live or cut bait on the bottom in
the deep holes in the cuts and turns in the river. They are also
hearing of some crappie being caught in local ponds using minnows.
Outpost has Jumbo Carp Minnows that work great for catching bass
in local ponds and the river. They are open at 5:00 am everyday
and will have everything you will need for a great day on the
water. It’s that time of year and you need to stop by and
get a up to date fishing report, pick up a hot cup of coffee and
a fresh breakfast sandwich on your way to the lake or river.
