TRADER WORLD (843-552-5964) in N. Charleston on Cross County Road has the largest selection of new and used guns in town. Bill Dukes and the crew are all stocked up for the remaining turkey season. Season is open statewide until the 1st of May. If you are a turkey hunter and need your guns cleaned or fixed up or need a new or used gun, stop in and see the folks at Trader World. They also have a large selection of scopes, ammo and all of your accessories. They feature two full time gunsmiths on hand for all of your gunsmithing needs and also offer SLED Certified Concealed Weapons Classes. They have an indoor pistol range right next to the store. HADDRELL’S POINT TACKLE WEST ASHLEY is located at 47 S. Windermere Blvd. This store is stocked with everything that you will need to fish in the coastal and offshore waters around Charleston. Mr. Blocker does the best rod and reel repair around. With the warmer weather there are reports of Yellowfin tuna and wahoo being caught offshore on live bait. Bottom fishing has been excellent around the wrecks. Sheepshead are being caught around structures like artificial reefs, bridges and jetties using fiddler crabs and oysters. Flounder are being caught using mud minnows on the bottom. The trout and redfish have turn on and can be caught on mud minnows, grubs and Berkley gulp. At FOLLY ROAD TACKLE SHOP, they have heard of some catches of spot tail bass up in the creeks and rivers and on the flats at high tide. They are being caught on spoons, mud minnows, and grubs. On the full moon (May 19th) the bream fishing should be excellent in the local freshwater ponds and rivers using crickets and worms. The trout can be caught on shrimp and grubs around live oyster beds. They are also hearing of crappie being caught in small ponds in the area on minnows. Folly Road Tackle Shop carries a good selection of tackle and bait for whatever kind of fishing you do. They have everything (food, drinks, beer, ice and more) you will need for a day of fishing. The SEA SCHOOL on Daniel Island/Clements Ferry Road can help get your captain’s licenses. Do you need a CAPTAIN’S LICENSE to be a professional fishing guide or run a charter boat? THE CHARLESTON ANGLER says it is time to fish and before you go come see the crew and let them re-spool your reels and give you some tips on fishing in the waters around Charleston. In fishing baits you need to check out the Gulp shrimp and crab baits by Berkley. They also have a great selection of Storm Baits and saltwater Assassins. The offshore fishing department is now fully stocked. They are getting reports of yellow fin tuna, wahoo and dolphin being caught offshore. Bottom fishing for Black Sea Bass, Grouper and Snapper has been good using the Butterfly jigging system on the bottom around wrecks or reefs. Cobias should show up, as the weather gets warmer. Sheepshead should be found near piling and by the jetties with fiddlers and live shrimp. Fishing on the flats with spinner baits, DOA Shrimp, electric chicken grubs and gold spoons should produce some Reds. The flounder should be moving into the creeks and can be caught on the bottom using mud minnows. Stop by for details on where and when to fish around the Charleston area.
