Virgil at CANNONS
LAKE located on Hwy 14 north of I-85 in Greer wished everyone
a Happy New Year. He says there is plenty of catfish and carp
to be caught. There is no SC License is required. Come on out
for some good family fun. Also find out when they will be having
the next carp tournament. They are open seven days a week and
invite you and your family to come by anytime. Virgil also has
Cannons Restaurant just down the road that offers the best
home cooked meals in Greer.
From THE SOUTHERN
SPORTSMAN on Hwy. 9 at lake Bowen Commons they have a wide
variety of hunting & fishing gear. They stated that most of
their customers are out duck hunting. Late December and January
is a great time to catch largemouth on Lake Bowen and Lake Blalock
using spinnerbaits and jigs. Crappie should be suspending over
brush in 5 to fifteen foot of water and can be caught on minnows
and black and chartreuse tube jigs.
On Hwy. 9 at Lake Bowen
GOTCHA COVERED MARINE told us that they have some excellent
specials on boats by Smokercraft, Key West, Stingray and Bennington.
David stated that on lake Bowen the outboard motor restriction
is 115 Hp and on Lake Blalock the outboard motor restriction is
40 Hp. for pontoons and 30 Hp. for fishing boats. These are great
lakes to fish, and we are hearing that crappie are being caught
on minnows and mini-jigs fished around brushpiles in 5 to 15 foot
of water. Gotha Covered Marine will be at the Upstate Boat Show
in Greenville at the Carolina First Center January 22-25.
Our customers have had
a good 2008 deer season reports Don at KELL-CO SPORTS located
on 7552 Lone Oak Road in Spartanburg. If you are looking for warm

It looks like winter
is here and we want to remind you that we carry the Carhartt outdoor
and work clothes here at CHEROKEE OUTFITTERS located at
507 Winslow Ave. Exit 90 off I-85 Prime Outlet Mall. Deer hunters
have switched over to duck hunting and seem to be doing pretty
good this year. Theres plenty of small game hunting all
the way up to spring turkey season, so stop by, get the latest
information on where you want to go fishing, what they are biting,
or pick up some ammo or game calls. On my last visit to Cherokee
Outfitters, I dropped and lost a picture of a young man with a
deer. Please send us another copy of this picture so we can put
it in our magazine.

you their new package boats. They have plenty of jon boats for
the duck hunters. Come out and check them out.

white bass and bass in upstate lakes. The bass are deep and can
be caught on jigging spoons, deep running crankbaits and drop
shot rigs. You need to check out the custom painted Fulton's crankbaits.

motor & electronics installation. Remember take a kid fishing.

Most of my customers
are ready for a nice day of crappie fishing on the Lake Bowen
or on some of the local rivers reports Steve of HWY 9 AUTO
STOP located near Lake Bowen. Bass fishermen will be using
jigs and slow moving crankbaits because of the colder water. He
will be getting plenty of new tackle in stock after the dealer
shows in January. Also, he offers reel repair for his customers.
Thanks for a real good year and have a safe new year.
The crappie are hitting good over brush piles and around the bridge on the warmer days on doll flies and small minnows here at BROWNS BAIT AND TACKLE, located on Berrys Pond at 404 Berry Shoals Road in Duncan. Rhett also tells us that some good catfish are being caught using worms and stink baits on the bottom. He has 450 R&W flavors for the carp fishermen. Come on by, bring the whole family, and enjoy a great day on the lake. He has a boat ramp, plenty of live bait, tackle, snacks, hunting and fishing licenses, and this is family oriented, uncrowded, beautiful lake.
