At HORNE’S GENERAL STORE located at Hwy 34 and 39 in Chappells are ready to serve the fishermen or duck hunters in this area. They have some good pictures of deer taken locally and plenty of stories. Good luck duck hunting in the river below the dam. The stripers have started up the river out of Lake Murray and some good stripers can be caught on bucktails behind the dam when the water is moving. We hope everyone will have a safe and happy new year and thank our customers for a great year.

CHARLIE B’S TEXACO. is located at 2120 Hwy 246 at 702, just five miles above Greenwood State Park. We have the fishing tackle, hot food, hunting supplies, LP gas and other items you might need while in the area. The deer hunters have done great and a number of our lady customers have been outdoing the men recently as far as bagging some big deer in the 2008 season. On the fishing they have heard of some good catches of white perch, bass, catfish, striper and crappie taken vertical jigging with Berry spoons around bait in twenty to thirty foot of water in the mouths of the bigger creeks. We want to thank our many customers and hope that everyone will have a super new year.

Bobby tells us that you are welcome to bring your deer in until the last day for processing right here at ROCKHOUSE ROAD DEER PROCESSING, located at 1715 Rockhouse Road. He says his customers have kept him busy in the 2008 season with some really nice bucks and fat does being brought in. Don’t forget, when he calls, come pick up your processed meat. He does specialize in smoked meats, Andouille smoked sausage links, hot or mild, Polish Keilbasa, summer sausage, ring bologna, snack sticks, jerky and venison smoked bacon and several new items. Just ask. Bobby wishes everyone a happy new year.

While in the area hunting or fishing stop in the Depot Diner. They are located at 612 N. Main St. in Cross Hill (between the railroad track and Hwy. 72). The food is good hot home cooked meals. You should try the Papa hamburger! Check out the poster of the boy in the store. They are open on Sunday & look forward to seeing you after church. Don & Vicki invite you to stop in on Saturday for breakfast at 7am with a all you can eat and drink for only $5.50.

Captain Chris Simpson of the FIGHTIN DA BLUES GUIDE SERVICE stated that the weather will be cold but the fishing can be hot on Lake Monticello, Lake Murray and Lake Greenwood. Locate the shad and you will find the catfish and stripers. Drifting thru the schools of shad with cut bait will catch plenty of catfish. The bigger catfish should be caught anchoring on ledges and humps close to schools of bait. Chris guides for catfish on all 3 lakes. The catfish are always at least biting on one of these lakes. CROSS HILL HARDWARE SUPPLY is located on Hwy. 39 in Cross Hill at the rail road tracks. They keep a good supply of live bait, fishing tackle, ice, food plot supplies and more. They fill propane tanks of all sizes and have all your hardware supplies. The shorter, cold days will have most of the locals out duck hunting. On the fishing, the bass should be feeding more especially on shad schools and can be caught on crankbaits and jigging spoons especially on the over cast days. Crappie will be caught around the bridges and brushpiles in the mouths of the creeks and around bridges using minnows or slow trolling mini-jigs. Stripers can be caught below the Lake Greenwood dam when the water is moving on live bait and bucktails. Happy New Year to all.

Deer hunters really enjoyed the deer hunting and big racks taken in the 2008 season reports QUICK POINT, located on Hwy 221 South in Maddens.
