RICK'S OF SOUTH CAROLINA is located on Bluff Road on the way to the Santee Cooper Lakes. They have been selling live bait especially worms to the catfishermen. They are also hearing that the crappies are being caught on minnows on the upper part of Lake Marion and on Lake Wateree. Many of their customers are out duck hunting. The news at BARRON'S OUTFITTERS, "Columbia's Hunting and Fishing Headquarters" located in the heart of downtown Columbia at 1725 Harden Street, is that the hunters have reported good dove hunts this season and some nice bucks have been taken. They are stocked up with everything you will need for duck hunting, including camo clothing, boots and ammo. On Lake Murray the stripers are being caught free lining blue back herring off points in the middle part of the lake. Largemouth bass are being caught on spinnerbaits and small crankbaits fished around rocky points and submerged islands in the lower part of the lake. On the coast redfish are being caught in schools. Also trout fishing is good using DOA shrimp, grubs or mud minnows fished over live oyster beds. Barron's is Columbia's fly fishing headquarters. Barron's can outfit you and teach you how to fly fish whether you are going to the coast for big reds, trout fishing in the mountains or fly fishing in ponds and rivers. PETE'S SANDY RUN STORE & GRILL is located on Hwy 176 at Hwy 31 in the Sandy Run - Gaston area. Opening early (5:00 am) to serve the entire areas sportsman. Local deer hunters have had a really good season. The Duck hunters are glad the cold weather up north has brought some ducks into the area. They have a great selection of fish'n & hunt'n supplies. With the water cooling crappie should be caught in the upper part of Lake Marion using minnows around brush piles. The bass fishing should be good in the local ponds. So come by the store and get some minnows, crickets or worms and go catch you a stringer full. On the Congaree River catfish are being caught on the bottom of the deep holes using cut bait, worms, liver and gizzards, especially at night, has been good. THE OUTPOST on Hwy.176 in Sandy Run say, their customers had a good deer-hunting season. The Outpost has a great assortment of tackle, with new shipments arriving weekly. They have Jumbo Carp Minnows that work great for catching bass in local ponds and rivers. They hear some big catfish can be caught using live or cut bait on the bottom in the deep holes in the cuts and turns in the River. The Outpost is opens at 5:00 am everyday.
